Data Deletion Policy

At TheRain, you have the right to request the deletion of your personal data. This page explains what data we hold, what can be deleted, how to request deletion, and what happens after your request.

1. Overview

TheRain is committed to respecting your privacy and data rights. In accordance with applicable data protection laws in Cameroon and international best practices, you have the right to request the deletion of your personal data from our systems.

This Data Deletion Policy applies to all TheRain users including Riders, Drivers, Parents, Fleet Managers, and Guest users.

Your Right to Deletion

You may request deletion of your personal data at any time. TheRain will process your request within 30 days of receipt. Some data may be retained for legal, safety, or operational reasons as outlined in this policy.

2. What Data We Hold About You

Depending on how you use TheRain, we may hold the following types of personal data:

For Riders

  • Full name, phone number, email address
  • Profile photo and saved addresses
  • Ride history and trip details
  • Payment information and transaction records
  • Device information and app usage data
  • Ratings and feedback submitted
  • Emergency contact information

For Drivers

  • Full name, phone number, email, home address
  • National ID images and facial verification data
  • Driver's license information
  • Vehicle information and photos
  • Earnings history and performance data
  • GPS location history during active duty
  • CCTV footage from vehicle cameras

For Guest Users

  • Name and phone number provided at booking
  • Temporary GUEST_ID and ride details
  • SMS receipt records

For Parents (School Transport)

  • Parent account information
  • Children's names, schools, and schedules
  • Subscription and payment records
  • Tracking history

3. What Can Be Deleted

Upon a valid deletion request, TheRain will delete the following data:

  • Your account profile (name, email, phone, photo)
  • Saved addresses and favorite locations
  • Ride history older than legally required retention period
  • Marketing preferences and communication settings
  • Device tokens and push notification registrations
  • App usage analytics linked to your account
  • Ratings and reviews you submitted
  • Emergency contact information
  • Children's data (for school transport parents)
  • Driver verification documents (after legal hold period)
Account Deactivation

When your deletion request is approved, your TheRain account will be permanently deactivated and all associated personal data will be removed from our active systems within 30 days.

4. What We Must Retain

Certain data must be retained by TheRain for legal, safety, financial, or operational reasons even after a deletion request:

Anonymization

Where full deletion is not immediately possible due to legal requirements, TheRain will anonymize your data — removing all personally identifiable information — so it can no longer be linked to you as an individual.

5. How to Request Data Deletion

You can request deletion of your data through any of the following methods:

Via the TheRain App
Go to Profile → Settings → Privacy → Request Data Deletion. Follow the on-screen instructions to submit your request directly from the app.

Via Email
Send an email to info@therain.cm with the subject line "Data Deletion Request" and include your full name, registered phone number, and email address.

Via the Form Below
Complete the Data Deletion Request Form on this page. We will process your request and send a confirmation to your registered email or phone number.

Via Phone
Call our support team at +237 676 011 861 or +237 674 321 486 during business hours. Our team will guide you through the deletion process.

6. Data Deletion Request Form

Complete the form below to submit your data deletion request. All fields marked with * are required.

Your request will be processed within 30 days. You will receive a confirmation via SMS and email.

7. Timeline and Process

Request Received (Day 0)
You submit your deletion request via the app, email, form, or phone. You receive an automatic confirmation with a reference number.

Identity Verification (Day 1-3)
Our team verifies your identity to ensure the request is legitimate and protects against unauthorized deletion requests.

Review and Processing (Day 3-25)
We review what data can be immediately deleted and what must be retained for legal reasons. We begin the deletion process for eligible data.

Completion Confirmation (Day 25-30)
You receive a final confirmation via SMS and email confirming what data was deleted, what was anonymized, and what was retained with the reason.
Processing Time

TheRain commits to processing all data deletion requests within 30 days of receipt. Complex requests involving multiple data types or legal holds may take the full 30 days. You will be kept informed throughout the process.

8. After Deletion

Once your data deletion request is processed:

  • Your TheRain account will be permanently deactivated
  • You will no longer be able to log in with your credentials
  • Your personal data will be removed from our active databases
  • Your data will be removed from our backup systems within 90 days
  • You will receive a final confirmation email/SMS
Important Notice

Account deletion is permanent and irreversible. Once deleted, your account, ride history, wallet balance, and all associated data cannot be recovered. If you have a wallet balance, please withdraw it before submitting a deletion request.

Can I Create a New Account After Deletion?

Yes. After your data has been deleted, you may create a new TheRain account using the same or different phone number and email address. However, your previous ride history, wallet balance, and driver ratings will not be recoverable.

9. Special Considerations by Account Type

Drivers

Driver Account Deletion

Driver accounts cannot be deleted while there are pending rides, unresolved disputes, or outstanding earnings. All pending matters must be resolved before deletion can proceed. Driver verification documents may be retained for up to 3 years after account deletion for legal compliance.

Fleet Managers

Fleet Manager accounts cannot be deleted while there are active vehicles or drivers assigned to the fleet. All fleet vehicles must be deregistered and all driver assignments removed before deletion can proceed.

Parents (School Transport)

When a parent account is deleted, all associated children's profiles and school transport subscriptions will also be deleted. Active subscriptions will be cancelled and any unused subscription balance will be refunded.

Guest Users

Guest user data (name, phone, ride details) is automatically deleted after 90 days of inactivity. To request immediate deletion, contact us with your phone number and the date of your guest booking.
